Bug Sprayer - Gameboy Minigame Collection!

BugSprayer is an arcade minigame collection for the Gameboy inspired by classic arcade minigame collections of the past, like Nintendo’s Game & Watch Gallery series of the same platform!


Gameplay

Each minigame is an endless arcade-style action game where the main goal is to achieve the highest score possible. There are two difficulty levels for each minigame: Easy, which is available by default, and Hard, which is unlocked once you reach 1,000 points in that specific minigame.

The game has two minigames:

• Pie: Move between three lanes to protect your freshly baked pie from an open window of flying bugs and insects! Simply match the row of an enemy before they reach the kitchen to auto-spray them with your bug spray!
• Spray: You're surrounded by creepy crawlers coming out from under benches and from holes in the wall! Rotate between 8 angles to shoot them with your bug spray before they get near!

Development

This game was developed using GBDK-2020, with all code, design, art, sound effects, and music created entirely by me. I’m aware that GB Studio is out there and a great tool, but I wanted to challenge myself by diving into some code and the limitations of the past. I’m neither a trained artist nor a musician, yet I took on every aspect of the project myself to bring this title to life. I’d love to hear your feedback. Let me know what you think!

Download and Running

The game is provided as a ROM file. To play it, you'll need a Game Boy emulator on your device. For PC users, I recommend the BGB emulator. This was the main emulator used throughout development.

The game runs on virtually any device that supports Game Boy or Game Boy Color emulation. During development and testing, it has been successfully played on PC and the Anbernic RG35XXSP (A great retro handheld, highly recommended).

It’s also fully playable on original Game Boy hardware using a flashcart or other flash cartridge. Hopefully, I can get a physical release one day!
